Presentation: IMPRESSIONISM: From Manet to Monet

Presented by: Sean Crum

The Impressionists forged a new way of painting and looking at the natural world.  They challenged historical conventions that stood for centuries and created a new vision based on direct observation, bold brush strokes, high-keyed color, and a keen awareness of the science of perception.  The art of Manet, Monet, Degas, and Renoir are featured.

SEAN CRUM, ART TEACHER, ARTIST, PRINTMAKER, ART HISTORIAN, & MUSICIAN

I have been a professional artist and art historian for over 45 years. I have a Bachelor of Art Degree from Cleveland State University (1974) and a Master of Art Degree (1977) from Case Western Reserve University. I have received over 40 art and educational awards, been featured in 12 One-Man Shows, and have been accepted in over 60 juried shows. My art, pen& inks, paintings, and etchings, are in numerous collections including the collection of actress Patricia Heaton, WVIZ- Cleveland Public Broadcasting System, Solon Library, The Cleveland Institute of Art, Cleveland State University, Dr. Charles Boester, and the Excalibur Hotel in Las Vegas.  I taught high school Art and AP Art History and was the Art Department Chairman for North Ridgeville City Schools retiring in June 2012 after 35 years.  Since retirement I have been exhibiting my artwork and presenting Art History lectures on a variety of subjects for the Center for Lifelong Learning for Lorain County Community College, Colorado Free University, and Central Ohio Technical College near Columbus (program now discontinued since pandemic). I work as a supervisor for the Art Education Department at Kent State University.  I have also been presenting Art History lectures for retirement homes, public libraries, and art organizations across the state of Ohio. I also offer my lectures in virtual form.  I do private tours at area art museums such as the Cleveland Museum of Art and The Toledo Museum of Art.  I also do seminars for art organizations such as the Ohio Art Education Association. Art is my passion. I would like to make it my audiences and students passion too.
