The Cuyahoga Valley Art Center Offers Artists the Opportunity to Participate in a Juried Exhibition in Seven Art Categories
The Cuyahoga Valley Art Center (CVAC), 2131 Front Street Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221, have invited artists nationwide to enter CVAC’s 35th Annual Juried Exhibition, to be on display in their gallery from October 1st – November 2nd. Holding an annual juried exhibition has been a tradition at CVAC for 35 years now. This year they have elevated the structure of this exhibition to the artists advantage.
“Our annual juried exhibition will be arranged by media in 7 different categories for submission: Watercolor Media, Water Based Media, Oil Based Media, Dry Media, Mixed Media, 3-Dimensional Media & Photographic Media.” tells Danielle Dieterich, Director of CVAC. “We offer a plethora of classes here at CVAC covering everything from watercolor, acrylic and oil painting to drawing, ceramics and woodcarving. We wanted to ensure that our categories highlight the different artistic medias that our art center specializes in.”
In previous years, the exhibition was not juried and only one first, second and third-place winner were selected. This juried exhibition will have 7 “Best of” Category winners, 7 People’s Choice individual category winners and up to 18 honorable mentions. The a juror, will select a “Best of” Category winner and up to three honorable mentions for each category. A People’s Choice Selection process, starting October 2nd, shall dictate a People’s Choice Category winner for each category, to be announced at the end of the artist reception on October 19th.
The Best of Category winners shall receive a cash prize, to be recognized and distributed at the 35th Annual Juried Exhibition artist reception on October 19th from 5:00 – 8:00 PM. This reception is free to the public.
Juror: Jack McWhorter Professor of Art Kent State University: Stark
Professor Jack McWhorter received an M.F.A. from Kent State University in 1983. He has been a visiting artist at St. Luca School of Art, Brussels, Belgium, The Walworth Barbour American International School in Tel Aviv and for the Ohio Arts Council. His paintings have been exhibited widely including solo and group exhibitions in Beijing, Brooklyn, Brussels, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Glasgow, Leuven, New York, Overijse, Tel Aviv, Siena, and Ventura. Since 2000 he has been Coordinator of the School of Art’s BA program at Kent State University at Stark. The Painting Center in New York represents his work.
