CALL TO ARTISTS:

The Cuyahoga Valley Art Center (CVAC) is accepting submissions to their 36th Annual Juried Exhibition September 20th & 21st, 2019.

CVAC is looking to showcase the talents of participating artists in seven different categories for submission: Watercolor Media, Water Based Media, Oil Based Media, Dry Media, Mixed Media, 3-Dimensional Media & Photographic Media, all mediums are encouraged. CVAC will be accepting submissions on

Friday, September 20th from 10:00 – 7:00 PM &

Saturday, September 21st from 10:00 – 2:00 PM.

Cost is $30 for up to 2 entries for CVAC Members and $35 for up to 2 entries for non-CVAC members.

This open exhibition is juried, with the juror, C. Arthur Croyle, determining accepted submissions and the awards for all seven category winners, as well as up to three honorable mentions per category. A People’s Choice Selection process, starting September 24th, shall dictate a People’s Choice Category winner for each category, to be announced at the end of the Artist Reception on October 18th.

The Best of Category winners shall receive a cash prize, to be recognized and distributed at the 36th Annual Juried Exhibition Artist Reception on October 18th from 5:00 – 8:00 PM. This reception is free to the public.

2019 Juried Exhibition PROSPECTUS


Juror Biography: C. Arthur Croyle
C. Arthur Croyle was raised in both Akron, Ohio and in Dorfen, Germany where his grandparents lived. His German grandfather was an artist and designer and profoundly impacted Croyle’s career path. Croyle completed a BA and BFA with an emphasis in graphic design and illustration at the University of Akron and worked at an advertising agency, an art studio, and a publishing company before completing his MFA at Indiana University. He then began a 33-year career as a college faculty member, first at Miami University of Ohio, then at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. During his academic career, he transitioned from teaching graphic design and illustration in the fine arts where he taught painting and drawing. Croyle was Director of Biological and Pre-Medical illustration Program at Iowa State and later served as Director of the Graduate Program in the Visual Arts and Culture Department. One of his career highlights was teaching four semesters in Rome and producing watercolors and drawing that recorded the beauty of the ‘Eternal City.’ His work in graphic design illustration, abstract and representational art has been exhibited regionally, national and internationally. Currently in retirement, Croyle is the Vice President of the Akron Society of Artists and is concentrating his creative efforts on representing life and subject matter in the greater Akron area.
