The Cuyahoga Valley Art Center Offers Area Artists the Opportunity to Participate in a Plein Air Competition within the newly developed Historic Downtown Cuyahoga Falls
The Cuyahoga Valley Art Center (CVAC), 2131 Front Street Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221, invites all area artists to participate in their Crooked River Plein Air Competition, taking place from July 21st – August 3rd. Artist submissions will then be on display at the Cuyahoga Valley Art Center from August 6st – August 23rd.
Plein Air is a French term meaning outdoors and/or open air. It denotes a French style of impressionistic painting completed in an outdoor setting. The Crooked River Plein Air competition seeks to highlight the newly developed Downtown Cuyahoga Falls Historic District and the corresponding Cuyahoga River.
Holding a Plein Air competition has been a tradition at CVAC for a number of years. However, this year they have elevated the structure of this competition to the artists advantage. Participants have been granted access to explore different locations within the Historic District and the Cuyahoga River, some not usually accessible to the public, offering up to four paint-out opportunities for participants to paint together during the competition time frame.
Registration for this competition starts on July 20th, with the competition kicking off with an Artist Get Together on Saturday, July 21st from 10:00 AM – Noon. Registration is open through July 28th. Registration cost is $30 for members of CVAC and $35 for non-members of CVAC. Juror, Jessica Loftus of Akron, will select the Best of Show ($125), Second-place ($75), and Third-place ($50) winners of the competition to be celebrated at the Artist Reception on August 10th from 5:30 – 7:00 PM.
This exhibition shall display a painterly snap-shot of Cuyahoga Falls’s Downtown Historic District today, leaving a lasting impression of this time and place. To learn more or pick up a copy of the competition prospectus please visit CVAC in person or http://www.cvart.org/exhibits
