CVAC Community Open House: June 2nd 12:00 – 8:00 PM

During the grand opening of Front Street, the Cuyahoga Valley Art Center is excited to open its doors to the community and share all that we have to offer. Our gallery will be open to the public from 10 AM – 8 PM displaying our Member Exhibition. Our instructors will be offering live art demonstrations on our gallery level. Below is a tentative schedule:

NOON – 2:00 PM: Tom Baldwin, Bird carving

2:00 PM – 4:00 PM: Sally Heston, Watercolor & Mo Mosjowski, Alcohol Ink

4:00 PM – 6:00 PM: Mo Mosyjowski, Art Journaling

6:00 PM – 8:00 PM: Linda Hutchinson, Watercolor & Oil

Celebrating Over 80 Years of Art in Cuyahoga Falls

For 84 years, the Cuyahoga Valley Art Center (CVAC) has advocated for a greater understanding of the visual arts through the promotion of art education, exhibition and community engagement. Envisioning a sustainable, supported, and supportive environment where artistic excellence, creative spirit, and collaborative community engagement build synergy to enhance the quality of life in Northeast Ohio.

Home-grown right here in Cuyahoga Falls, CVAC continues to offer courses in Watercolor, Oil and Acrylic painting as well as in Drawing, Ceramics and Woodcarving for students of all levels of artistic abilities. CVAC also hosts several kids courses and weekend workshops throughout the year in a variety of visual arts mediums. Take a class or browse an exhibit to tap into your own creative spirit.

The Cuyahoga Valley Art Center is proud to grow within the revitalization phase of downtown Cuyahoga Falls.


Artist Biographies

Tom Baldwin:

Tom has been an active wildfowl carving artist since 1989. Originally from Wadsworth, Ohio., Tom moved to Cuyahoga Falls in 2008. Tom is a member of the Cuyahoga Falls Board of Zoning Appeals as well as a board member and Bird Carving instructor at the Cuyahoga Valley Art Center. Tom also has a public studio on the 3rd floor in the Summit Art Space building in Downtown Akron, Ohio. Since the addition of the Interpretive Wood Sculpture to the World Championships in 1987, Tom is one of 33 artists to earn the title of World Class Interpretive Sculpture at the World Championship competition.

Tom Teaches two Bird Carving classes @ CVAC geared towards beginning level students.

Sally Heston:

Sally’s career as an artist and art teacher spans over three decades and includes work experience in a variety of media and content. Sally has a BS in Art Education from Indiana University of PA (cum laude), and a MEd in art from the University of Pittsburgh. She works in watercolor, pastel, and acrylic. She has had several one-person exhibits and has been part of numerous group art exhibits. Her artwork is included in private collections locally and throughout the United States and Europe. She also teaches at Virginia Marti College.

Linda Hutchinson: 

Linda Hutchinson has been making art for the better part of her life, originally in the greeting card and print markets, and currently through her fine art drawings and paintings.  Awards include: Ohio Watercolor Society Gold Medal in 2001; First Night Akron button artist in 2008; and twice the recipient of The Kaleidoscope Award. She teaches drawing and painting at The Cuyahoga Valley Art Center and through continuing education programs at Kent City Schools. Her affiliations include:  Akron Society of Artists; Charlotte Fine Art Gallery; Hudson Fine Art and Framing; Ohio Arts Council; Ohio Watercolor Society; Oil Painters of America and The Sharon Weiss Gallery in Columbus. Most recently her work was featured in The Art of Watercolour Magazine, issue 26, which is published in Paris. Mo Mosyjowski:

Mary “Mo” Mosyjowski does not like to limit a piece to one medium, but will bravely try any means possible to make the composition work. She has experience in watercolor, acrylic, collage, oil, batik, Gelli Plate Printing and more. She has taught private students and workshops since 2006 on altered books, Pysanka (Ukrainian egg decoration) using a batik method of wax and dye and also done presentations on Gelli Plate Printing. Mo teaches the Discovery of Art class and Paint Parties at CVAC. Her abstract works have won many art show awards and she won the People’s Choice Award at the Summit ArtSpace Kaleidoscope Show for her altered book of self-portraits.

Mo teaches our Alcohol Ink Workshops and volunteers to manage our Tuesday Night Modeling Sessions. She also teaches Art Journaling Workshops here at CVAC.
