A Brush with Dance

March 14th & 15th

@ the Akron Civic Theater

The Cuyahoga Valley Art Center to display art depicting the dancers of Ballet Excel Ohio at the Akron Civic Theater during Ballet Excel Ohio’s performance of Snow Queen on March 14th & 15th.

The Cuyahoga Valley Art Center (CVAC) is entering their third year in partnership with Ballet Excel Ohio (BXO) to support the artistic development of their local community. The CVAC has offered their community open studio modeling sessions, weekly on Tuesday nights, for over a decade. In 2018 the CVAC invited BXO to their Tuesday Night Open Studio Modeling Sessions, to pose as their professional models on a weekly basis. This was made possible thanks to support from Pegs Foundation. BXO scheduled a student each week, wearing unique dancing attire, to practice their poses while modeling for participating artists at CVAC. Since the inception of this partnership with BXO, CVAC has raised over $2,000 in support of the artistic and professional development of the local arts community.

CVAC believes that they can engage the local community in artistic creation and appreciation through collaborative opportunities. CVAC is proud to extend their partnership even further with the A Brush With Dance exhibition to be held during BXO’s Snow Queen performance on March 14th & 15th at the Akron Civic Theater. This exhibition will showcase participating artists works of art created during these open studio modeling sessions. The artwork will depict the BXO dancers that have come to pose at CVAC over the years.

Patrons will have the opportunity to view the exhibit, purchase the artwork, and vote for their favorite works of art as part of the People’s Choice. An Artist Meet & Greet will be held before the start of the Sunday, performance. The winner of the People’s Choice will be selected and announced during intermission on March 15th.

The Cuyahoga Valley Art Center has been supporting artistic development in Cuyahoga Falls since 1934. Their mission as a non-profit visual arts organization, is to advocate for a greater understanding of the visual arts through the promotion of art education, exhibition and community engagement.

This exhibition will display artwork created by artists during CVAC’s Tuesday night modeling sessions. If you have participated in these modeling sessions and would like to display your work, please review the prospectus below for guidelines and dates.
