Cuyahoga Valley Art Center Member Exhibition

The Cuyahoga Valley Art Center Offers Members the Opportunity to Participate in a Juried Exhibition in Seven Art Categories

The members of the Cuyahoga Valley Art Center (CVAC), 2131 Front Street Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221, have been invited to enter CVAC’s 2018 Member Exhibition, to be on display in their gallery from May 29th  – June 21st. Holding a yearly member exhibition has been a tradition at CVAC for over 30 years. This year they have elevated the structure of this exhibition to their members’ advantage.

“Our member exhibition will be arranged by media in 7 different categories for submission: Watercolor Media, Water Based Media, Oil Based Media, Dry Media, Mixed Media, 3-Dimensional Media & Photographic Media.” tells Danielle Dieterich, Director of CVAC. “We offer a plethora of classes here at CVAC covering everything from watercolor, acrylic and oil painting to drawing, ceramics and woodcarving. We wanted to make sure that our Member Exhibition highlights the different art medias that our members excel in.”

In previous years, the exhibition was not juried and only one first, second and third-place winner were selected. This juried exhibition will have 7 “Best of” Category winners, 7 People’s Choice individual category winners and up to 18 honorable mentions. The juror will select a “Best of” Category winner and up to three honorable mentions for each category. A People Choice Selection process, starting May 29th, shall dictate a People’s Choice Category winner for each category, to be announced at the end of the artist reception on June 15th.

The Best of Category winners shall receive a cash prize, to be recognized and distributed at the 2018 Member Exhibition reception on June 15th from 4:30-7:00. This reception is free to the public and correlates with the Falls Downtown Fridays BeBop on the Block event. Collide: Cuyahoga Falls will also be hosting live poetry readings following this reception on the gallery level at CVAC.

Juror Information:

C. Arthur Croyle, Vice-President of the Akron Society of Artist:

C. Arthur Croyle was raised in both Akron, Ohio and in Dorfen, Germany where his grandparents lived. His German grandfather was an artist and designer and profoundly impacted Croyle’s career path. Croyle completed a BA and BFA with an emphasis in graphic design and illustration at the University of Akron and worked at an advertising agency, an art studio, and a publishing company before completing his MFA at Indiana University. He then began a 33-year career as a college faculty member, first at Miami University of Ohio, then at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. During his academic career, he transitioned from teaching graphic design and illustration in the fine arts where he taught painting and drawing. Croyle was Director of Biological and Pre-Medical illustration Program at Iowa State and later served as Director of the Graduate Program in the Visual Arts and Culture Department. One of his career highlights was teaching four semesters in Rome and producing watercolors and drawing that recorded the beauty of the ‘Eternal City.’ His work in graphic design illustration, abstract and representational art has been exhibited regionally, national and internationally. Currently in retirement, Croyle is the Vice President of the Akron Society of Artists and is concentrating his creative efforts on representing life and subject matter in the greater Akron area.

Winners:

Juror Statement
There is so much passion in these works. There was that same intensity in works that did not make this years exhibition too. The pieces selected reflect a sure hand, skill, and solid composition in addition to that passion. There is an increasing diversity to the styles and these in this years exhibition. It is amazing to see the skill in the work of the category award winners. There are a number of very accomplished artists in the CVAC ranks. For me there was joy and satisfaction in seeing all of the work submitted. Every piece submitted was clearly from the heart and soul of each artist. – C. Arthur Croyle
