A People’s Choice Selection process, starting April 25th, shall dictate a People’s Choice category winner for each category, to be announced at the end of the Artist Reception on May 19th from 5:30 – 7:00 PM. This reception is free to the public and the People’s Choice voting shall conclude at 6:00 PM, with awards announced at 6:30 PM.
Bill’s work follows two distinct paths. He creates realistic landscape paintings based on personal experience and observation. Also, his works in colored pencils create tightly controlled renderings on plaster-like surfaces. These colored pencil works are often three-dimensional, and their subjects come from a wide range of visual stimulation. For him neither path takes dominance but each contributes to the development of the other. Color, surface variation, illusion, and texture keep the work exciting. In addition to this creative work, Bill also designs and builds furniture.
An art teacher at Parma Senior High School for 32 years, had the opportunity to teach courses ranging from photography, fine art, crafts, art history, and computer art. This breadth of experience informs his wide range of work. He currently serves as a docent at the Cleveland Museum of Art, continuing his interests in both education and art.
Bill’s work has been included in numerous juried exhibitions including Summit Art Space, Kent Downtown Gallery, and Lakeland College.

DRY MEDIA
HONORABLE MENTION Kayla Billings Akron, OH ‘Continuous Contour: Reading’ Dry Media $100 |
“This is a tough project! The drawing appears to be made from beginning to end without lifting the pen from the paper. Not only is confident eye/hand coordination required, but also a significant amount of mental organization in order to successfully pull this off.”
– Juror, William ‘Bill’ Peck

|
DRY MEDIA
HONORABLE MENTION Danica Zeise Medina, OH ‘Deconstructed’ Dry Media $290 |
“A very interesting abstract composition. The explosive bursts of color and the diagonal visual flow are particularly effective.”
– Juror, William ‘Bill’ Peck |
|
DRY MEDIA #
BEST OF CATEGORY Betty Siska Broadview Heights, OH ‘Approaching Dusk’ Dry Media $230 |
“This is a very nice pastoral scene that employs interesting atmospheric color and texture. Where it would be tempting to use standard color effects, the use of violet and grey provides an added richness to this landscape.” – Juror, William ‘Bill’ Peck | |
PHOTOGRAPHY
HONORABLE MENTION Lance Apple Copley, OH ‘Handrail Chorus’ Photographic Media $50 |
“Beautiful, minimal rendering of architectural forms. A very effective use of positive and negative shapes.”
– Juror, William ‘Bill’ Peck
|
|
PHOTOGRAPHY
BEST OF CATEGORY Pollock Youngpole Akron, OH ‘Cargill Plant’ Photographic Media $200 |
“There’s a danger in interpreting artist’s intent. That said, I’ll give it a try anyway. Forgive me if I read this wrong… The shapes evoke an industrial scene that suggests a toxic environment. The blotchy overlayed colors and the photo-negative components contribute to that atmosphere. At the same time, there are beautiful nuances of color throughout. It appears that more than one image was used in this complex composition.”
– Juror, William ‘Bill’ Peck |
|
WATER-BASED MEDIA
HONORABLE MENTION Robert Goldthwaite Kent, OH ‘Jackson’ Water-Based Media $350 |
“This dog is great fun! The willful distortions and the unusual use of color make this a playful, in-your-face encounter.” – Juror, William ‘Bill’ Peck
|
|
WATER-BASED MEDIA
HONORABLE MENTION Robert Knapp Uniontown, OH ‘Clowning Around’ Water-Based Media NFS |
“I wish I knew more about the face paint, but the portrait of this young man shows a spontaneity and deft brushwork. The background could have been fussy and more descriptive, but the simplicity and repetition of colors from the boy are just enough to re-direct attention back to the subject.”
– Juror, William ‘Bill’ Peck
|
|
WATER-BASED MEDIA
BEST OF CATEGORY Susan Mencini Cuyahoga Falls, OH ‘Lakescape’ Water-Based Media $500 |
“This painting uses bold fluid colors to dramatically illustrate this subject. The rich colors and the fearless brush strokes bring an immediacy to this as well.”
– Juror, William ‘Bill’ Peck
|
|
OIL-BASED MEDIA
HONORABLE MENTION Phyllis Estis Aurora, OH ‘Summer Shadows’ Oil-Based Media $1,800 |
“The white geraniums on the deck are beautifully realized with strong, structural contrasts throughout. The great variety of green hues and observation of sunlight and shadows are wonderfully presented.”
– Juror, William ‘Bill’ Peck
|
|
OIL-BASED MEDIA
HONORABLE MENTION C. Arthur Croyle Cuyahoga Falls, OH ‘The Mighty Cuyahoga’ Oil-Based Media $1,200 |
“How many ways can you say “Grey” and not be redundant? This painting tells us that you can say it a lot. This is an unflinchingly muscular view of the denizens of the Cleveland Flats, warts and all! We see the opposing use of diagonal lines, massive structures and yet, the wonderful colors along the Cuyahoga.”
– Juror, William ‘Bill’ Peck
|
|
OIL-BASED MEDIA
BEST OF CATEGORY Tom Jackson Stow, OH ‘Strolling on Broad’ Oil-Based Media NFS |
“Tom Jackson is the master of the urban landscape who has a keen eye for the beauty in architectural detail and the shadows that create them. It’s especially interesting to view his work from a distance for the “gestalt” and then zoom in for the wonderful painterly second course.” – Juror, William ‘Bill’ Peck
|
|
WATERCOLOR MEDIA
HONORABLE MENTION Mary Ann Mosyjowski Akron, OH ‘Complements’ Watercolor Media $850 |
“Particularly effective in this painting is the use of areas of overlapping transparent shapes. The semi-abstract nature of this composition is also interesting. There is a good combination of realistic floral shapes and non-representational color areas.” – Juror, William ‘Bill’ Peck
|
|
WATERCOLOR MEDIA
HONORABLE MENTION Sandra Johnson Shaker Heights, OH ‘Young Girl’ Watercolor Media $250 |
“What a lovely, loose rendering. Very rich colors and bold brushwork. It’s great to see the temptation to overwork resisted!”
– Juror, William ‘Bill’ Peck
|
|
WATERCOLOR MEDIA
BEST OF CATEGORY Scott Lukens Wadsworth, OH ‘Our Lady (Notre Dame)’ Watercolor Media $125 |
“In the true spirit of soupy, wet watercolors, this rendering of Notre Dame a Paris (prior to the fire) shows courage! The complementary colors are dramatic and expressive, and the allowance of white areas add a crispness to the architecture.” – Juror, William ‘Bill’ Peck
|
|
MIXED MEDIA
HONORABLE MENTION Deborah Thomarios Akron, OH ‘Memories’ Mixed Media NFS |
“This piece, while complex, has a unity and consistency that seems to evoke an artifact of an ancient culture. Shapes and colors are repeated in an interesting way.”
– Juror, William ‘Bill’ Peck
|
|
MIXED MEDIA
HONORABLE MENTION Danica Zeise Medina, OH ‘Sgraffito # 1’ Mixed Media $290 |
“Very interesting media. I like the use so sgraffito that is worked into the large black forms.” – Juror, William ‘Bill’ Peck
|
|
MIXED MEDIA
BEST OF CATEGORY Helen Wilson Akron, OH ‘On the Edge of Spring’ Mixed Media $600 |
“Impeccable craftsmanship and interesting textures, implied and real. Very good use of materials as well as a creative division of the space. It seems that great care was taken to provide a unique dimension to the various zones of this composition.”
– Juror, William ‘Bill’ Peck
|
|
3-DIMENSIONAL MEDIA
HONORABLE MENTION Leo Miller Ravenna, OH ‘Samuel D. Stork’ 3-D Media $400 |
“The zenith of whimsy! This bird is beautifully crafted and an outrageous colorful spectacle. It is great fun and a well-conceived piece. Congratulations on the sale!”
– Juror, William ‘Bill’ Peck
|
|
3-DIMENSIONAL MEDIA
HONORABLE MENTION David Lesniewski Copley, OH Drip 3-D Media NFS |
“This unassuming vase is well-thrown and nicely glazed. Of particular note is the use of two kinds of glazes. The inside gloss glaze contrasts stylistically with the matte outer glaze. The thin-wall construction indicates care and skill.”
– Juror, William ‘Bill’ Peck
|
|
3-DIMENSIONAL MEDIA
BEST OF CATEGORY Lou Camerato Akron, OH Totem #3 3-D Media $200 |
“This piece suggests so many kinds of ceremonial objects from staffs of authority to religious standards. Very nice combination of objects and materials that appear to be carefully selected for their artistic as well as symbolic identity. It looks anthropological.”
– Juror, William ‘Bill’ Peck
