BEGINNING – ADVANCED: This two-day workshop will introduce basic Coptic stitch binding from cover to cover. Coptic stitch binding is a simple yet durable book stitch that has evolved from the fourth century to this current form. This type of stitch is an exposed sewing that adorns the backbone of the book sewn directly into the board. Students will learn how to create at least two small books with a single-needle approach and multiple-needle approaches. This class will allow students to master the basic structure and rhythm to graduate to more complicated stitch techniques.
Below are samples of work that students may explore within this workshop:
*Students will need to bring all supplies listed to participate in this workshop.
Refreshments and light snacks will be provided. Please pack your lunch for this workshop daily. If you cannot, there are local places where staff can recommend ordering boxed lunches. Students will need to pick up these lunches during their designated lunch.
