INTERMEDIATE / ADVANCED: Instruction in this workshop will focus on different methods of working with pastels on different surfaces. Subjects are at the discretion of the instructor and will include, but are not limited to, still life and landscape. Various layering and blending techniques will be demonstrated and practiced and students will have time to work on their own projects with instructor supervision. Good composition practices will be emphasized. Some unusual “underpainting” techniques will be demonstrated and utilized. This workshop is for students with good basic drawing skills. Materials from the provided supply list are required.

Refreshments and light snacks will be provided. Please pack your lunch for this workshop daily. If you cannot, there are local places where staff can recommend ordering boxed lunches. Students will need to pick up these lunches during their designated lunch.

Sally Heston’s career as an artist and art teacher spans over four decades and includes work experience in a variety of media and content. Sally has a BS in art education from Indiana University of PA (cum laude) and an MEd in art from the University of Pittsburgh. She works in graphite, watercolor, pastel, and acrylic. A prize-winning artist, she has had several one-person exhibits and has been part of numerous group art exhibits. Her artwork is included in private collections locally and throughout the United States and Europe. She is a retired elementary and secondary school art teacher and recently retired from teaching at Virginia Marti College in Lakewood, OH. Among other groups, she is a signature member of the Ohio and Pennsylvania Watercolor Societies and the Whiskey Painters of America.
