Instructor Biography:

Chelby Benson is a Visual Arts Teacher at Woodridge High School in Peninsula, Ohio. Chelby teaches High School Drawing, Painting, and Ceramics Classes and has worked to get students involved creating art outside of school in her Community Art Class. She engages students in a variety of projects that challenge students’ creative problem solving. In her six years at Woodridge students have participated in everything from painting water barrels with scenes to promote waterway preservation, to city hall murals, logo design for the City of Cuyahoga Falls, set designs for school musicals, pet portraits to promote adoption from local pet agencies, led students to paint plein air along with Cuyahoga River and each year organizes teams of students to create pottery for The Empty Bowl Event to raise money for Family Promise Homeless Shelter of Summit County, an event that has made Woodridge a destination for those across the county. She enjoys working with students to tap into their creativity in the performing arts as well as the visual arts, making art come to life on stage as the director and producer for Woodridge High School’s theater program. Chelby holds a BS in Pre-Kindergarten-12th grade Art Education from Indiana Wesleyan University. Her personal repertoire lies in Ceramic Arts and Scenic Design.
