BIRD CARVING: Evening Session

MONDAY 5:45 – 9:00 PM I SEPTEMBER 25 – NOVEMBER 13, 2023 I (8 WKS) 

BEGINNER/INTERMEDIATE with Tom Baldwin – CVAC is offering wildfowl (bird) carving classes for beginners.  The classes will be taught by world-class international award-winning wildfowl carving artist, Tom Baldwin.  Students will start with a bandsawn blank and complete a fully detailed and painted wooden bird that will look as though it could fly away when finished. This class is structured for people who have little or no experience in wood carving.  Students will learn the techniques of micropower carving using Tupelo wood. CVAC will provide all tools necessary for this class.  Students must provide their own acrylic paints and brushes later for the painting portion of the class. It is recommended if you are interested in this class to make your reservation early. If you like birds – you are going to love this class. A $25 material fee is included in the final price. Tom Baldwin Biography

Tom Baldwin is a world-class wildfowl carving artist who started his class at CVAC in the summer of 2016.  Tom won the prestigious title of Second Best in the World (Division D – Interpretive Wood Sculpture, World-Class Level) for his piece titled The Grief of Gaia at the Ward World Championships in 2017.  This work was also included in the international  2019 “Birds in Art” exhibit at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Museum in Wausau, Wisconsin.  Among his other awards are the Best Sculpture in Ohio at the 70thAnnual Ohio Artist Exhibition at the Zanesville Museum of Art (2015) and the M & T Printing purchase award and first place awards at the Canadian National Wildfowl Carving Championship (2012).
