BEGINNER with Amanda Bacon – Dive into the fundamentals of ceramics with our 5-week “Beginning Throwing 101” class. Perfect for those new to the pottery wheel, this course will focus on essential techniques like centering the clay and throwing cylinders and cups. Through hands-on practice and guided demonstrations, you’ll create and complete your very first pottery projects, with all pieces being fired and glazed as part of the experience.
Materials: Clay must be purchased at CVAC on or before the first class. The cost is $10 for 12 lbs. Glazing and firing fee included in tuition cost. Students should bring a towel and an apron.
Attendance: Given the intensive nature of this course, it is crucial that you attend all five classes. If you anticipate any scheduling conflicts, please consider enrolling at a later time.
Projects: Students will create up to five wheel-thrown pottery projects during class time. Note that this class is designed exclusively for beginners and does not accommodate intermediate or advanced students. All work must be completed during class hours, no out-of-class work time is available nor permitted.

Instructor Bio: Faculty member Amanda Bacon, a graduate of the University of Akron Fine Arts Program, is a ceramic artist who enjoys creating functional pieces that represent her art history background. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, working in her home studio, knitting (any type of fiber arts), riding horses, or teaching horseback riding lessons. Her work has been accepted into juried entry exhibitions in Cape Code and Pennsylvania, as well as several local and international exhibitions.
