ALL LEVELS / BEGINNER-FRIENDLY:
Discover the rich tradition and meditative process of Pysanky, the Ukrainian art of egg decoration, in this hands-on introductory workshop led by CVAC faculty member Mo Mosyjowski. Rooted in history, symbolism, and ritual, Pysanky is created using a wax-resist (batik) technique in which layers of beeswax and dye slowly build intricate, meaningful designs on eggs.
Instructor, Mo Mosyjowski, grew up practicing this art form and shares it as both a cultural tradition and a deeply cathartic creative process. Participants will be guided step-by-step through the entire process—from learning about the history and symbolism of Pysanky, to understanding materials and tools, to writing wax designs and dyeing eggs from light to dark. The workshop moves at a thoughtful, supportive pace, allowing space to enjoy the stories, sounds, focus, and tactile nature of the process.
This workshop is designed as a welcoming introduction to Pysanky. Participants should plan to leave with at least one completed egg (if all goes according to plan), along with the knowledge and confidence to continue exploring this art form at home. Each participant will also receive a reference booklet to keep for future use.
No prior experience is necessary. All materials will be provided. Class size is limited.
WORKSHOP DETAILS:
Workshop Payments are due in full at sign up, and are non-refundable unless CVAC cancels the workshop.
